Due to the situation with coronavirus and uncertainties regarding international travel in the next few months the SHLP 2020 committee has regretfully decided that the best course of action is to postpone the conference. This decision is also partly influenced by the decision at ANU to postpone their 60+ years celebration. At this point in time it does not make sense to suggest an alternative time for the conference. Once the situation regarding the virus is clear, we will discuss the options, and post a notice on this website.

The seventh conference of the Society for the History of Linguistics in the Pacific will be held in Canberra, Australia, 3–4 August 2020, just prior to a celebration of 60+ years of Linguistics at the Australian National University, scheduled for 6–7 August.
Papers will be 20 minutes in length followed by 10 minutes of discussion.
Papers dealing with any aspect of the history of linguistics in the Pacific and Pacific Rim regions (enclosed area in the map above) are welcome. The organisers would particularly like to encourage contributions from those working on languages spoken on the eastern edge of the Rim (the west coast of the Americas) and the north western edge (island east and south-east Asia). Papers that link developments in the Pacific region with linguistics in Europe are also especially welcome.
